Fragments of Life in Pictures and in Memories

This week, Brian of the Bushboy blog gives us a very thoughtful topic, fragmentation. As he says, our world is more fragmented and disconnected now. I really enjoyed his post, and it got me to thinking about my life. Visit Brian’s post and get inspired. He did a wonderful job on it.

In my post today, you can’t see much of what’s going on, you just focus on one thing going on at the moment. Each photo is just one piece of a bigger puzzle. You can only guess what’s happening, based on the little bit of information you’re given..

Feel The Fury

NYC, June 2023. Someone was very angry on Friday morning. I felt it, seeing this torn-up parking ticket.

Mysterious Moments

NYC, September 2016. I looked out my window and saw my neighbor’s car on the sidewalk. Was she drunk? Two neighbors were talking about it.

Filling in the missing information makes us think up wild ideas to explain things we don’t understand..

It turned out our neighbor accelerated instead of breaking in the building’s parking lot. She lost control, driving over the grass lawn, more than 50 feet.

Vacation Excitement

NYC, July 2017. We were excited about this trip in 2017, but what’s amazing for you may not be for someone else…

Staycation Depression

Our dog Coco didn’t want us to go. This was his way of protesting. We left for Greece and Turkey. My brother-in-law stayed with Coco in our apartment. Coco had his staycation.

An Unexpected Special Moment

NYC, February 2012. I was working two jobs, so Aixa met me in between jobs with this birthday cupcake. That morning, she baked a batch for the occasion.

We ate cupcakes in the car that afternoon. My cupcake on the dashboard was a big gesture by Aixa. She turned this 15-hour workday into one of my most memorable birthdays.

Today’s Your Day

I found this photo today from April 2018 when Aixa prepared paninis for dinner. We bought that little wooden fork on a trip to Mexico.

Today’s photos made me rethink my post. Fragments is an ugly word. It’s something that’s now broken in pieces. I prefer the word highlights.

And this particular photo made us rethink what we’ll have for dinner today.

TODAY’S YOUR DAY. Make yourself a panini. Eat them in the park. Find your highlights.

  1. I definitely had a smile with each of your fragments this week Dan and loved your approach. The cupcake episode was so sweet and romantic! I think fragments seen this way have a sense of mystery to them and am happy they all turned out just fine or better!

    1. Thanks, Tina. It’s funny the things that stand out when you look back over a long time. And filling in the story, I usually get things wrong.

  6. Loved your approach on “Fragments” Dan. Often life brings perception and you showcased it perfectly. And perfect to think how special a fragment in time is. Your cupcake was a reminder of that. Very nice post.

      1. I have a little wooden plaque that we travel with. It says: “Every love story is beautiful. But ours is my favorite.” I think that speaks to you and Aixa too.
